BANDOL.
you remember Bandol? I was there Easter Saturday, with girlfriend, walking a small dog along the promenade, in a crowd of other old people. Before anybody starts thinking about doing a repeat performance of the bacchanales taking place there after the Bol, forget it! The place is tidied up and looks like a plastic copy of itself, a vision of a mad architect with some serious problems. Leave the memories where they are. On this site, for instance.
One who doesn't seem to be satisfied with memories is Peter Linden, who finished 2nd in his class at the Hockenheim 1000kms on a Ducati 848 as I was walking the dog. Ah well, we always saw life from different sides.
Hugs to everybody!

Dear All

Must be going through a mid life crisis, as I found myself yearning to get back to Le Mans, as the last time I went was in '92.

Julian Ryder's article in Bike magazine in '82 about the No 73 Honda of yes Howard Lees & Dave Chisman lying in 2nd place (I think) got me into Endurance racing. It said go to Le Mans once, and you'll have to go again. Go too often and you have to take part.

Well I went every year from '84 to '92, as well as going to the Bol, Spa, and a number of other 6 & 8hr races.

I folowed Team Bike, then MCN etc right the way through to Thats' racing support during their final year in the top flight. Howard was an absolute inspiration, and sure enough I did have a go myself in '88 on board, you guessed it a CB 900.

Sadly talent and more importantly money was insufficient for me to have an opportunity to race in one of the 24 hr races, but I always remember fondly the fun of riding round Europe following the boys exploits wth a real passion.

I am so glad that Howard Lees Racing is remenbered, and I am so glad I found this site.

Having a son of my own, I am intending to get to Le Mans once again soon, and will have a beer in hand when I think of the fun they inspired me to have in my youth.

Thanks once again.

Neil Ferguson (very average club racer from the late 80's) but still avid follower of Endurance racing!!!.

Linda,

I have often thought about you, Dave and Howard over the years.

A friend sent me, just a few days ago, an old clipping from Bike about Dave’s death. I didn’t know. Following it up I found the website and see Howard has gone too. I am deeply saddened by this news and offer my belated condolences to you.

I lost touch with you all after I saw you last in ‘85, when I went off to pursue another life.

I see you’re a mother and wife now and am very pleased for you.

Please contact me if you can and we’ll reminisce about those days at Mulgrave road.

I would like to put some anecdotes on the guestbook about those early days of fun, so let me know if there’s anything you don’t want broadcast!

Meanwhile, wishing you all the best in ’09,

Love Phil
